IMAT 2026 In-Depth Exam Analysis & All 23 Italian Public Universities Cutoff Predictions
The original Meditaliano Bi-Annual Swing forecast is the baseline. It preserves each university's rebound or cooling cycle, while the reported 36% increase in applicants and the 18,368-candidate anonymous list raise the overall level. Because anonymous results do not reveal citizenship, university preferences, withdrawals, or final allocation, every range remains provisional until the official ranking expected on October 26, 2026.
※ All university cutoff figures (EU / Non-EU) and predicted score intervals (** ~ **) are provisional simulation estimates. The model uses the pre-ranking 2024–2025 Bi-Annual Swing analysis, with official seat quotas, preference behaviour and scrolling preventing a one-for-one conversion of candidate growth into EU cutoffs. Exam-location labels are not treated as university preferences or citizenship categories.
These figures do NOT constitute official, guaranteed cutoff scores issued by the Italian Ministry or individual universities. Candidates should utilize this data solely as reference material and exercise independent judgment when finalizing application and ranking preferences.
📊<Overall Exam Audit>Comprehensive IMAT 2026 Evaluation
Reading comprehension passages expanded by ~200 words. Chemistry featured multiple multi-step coefficient balancing tasks (Q34, Q39, Q40), imposing severe time constraints on candidate pacing across the 100-minute test.
Systematic calculation traps (Q7 inverse ratio, Q34 spectator nitric acid molecules, Q58 without-replacement probability denominator) were laid to penalize rushed test-takers with -0.4 point deductions.
Eliminated the obscure metabolic intermediates of 2025. Standard textbook concepts dominated, making near-perfect scores (28+ pts) in Biology prerequisite for elite admission.
Three intense balancing and redox problems (Q34, Q39, Q40) drained time. Distinguishing spectator nitric acid from oxidized acid separated top-tier candidates.
Omitted convoluted trigonometric extremes in favor of high-yield circuits, thermodynamics, and probability. Avoiding denominator traps under fatigue was decisive.

IMAT 2026 national score distribution
The anonymous list contains 18,368 candidates, around 36% more than 2025. The national mean rose to 49.29 / 90. Biology produced the largest subject movement, while reasoning and chemistry moved in the opposite direction.
2026 subject means
Verified Meditaliano cohort · 74 students
66.60 average · +17.31 above the national mean
The Meditaliano cohort combines 34 EU and 40 Non-EU verified Online Tutoring and Premium students. It is a selected student cohort and should not be treated as a random national sample.
🔬<Subject-by-Subject In-Depth Analysis>Full 5 Subjects Comprehensive Review
Detailed structural review of question trends, pitfall traps, and scoring dynamics by our senior academic faculty.
Expository prose covering cognitive linguistics, digital platform economic structures, and scientific bioethics. The passage word counts expanded significantly compared to 2025, requiring precise extraction of author intent rather than surface skimming. Options featured nuanced semantic twists that penalized hasty reading.
Candidates who fell into panic and invested over 10 minutes on these opening 4 questions triggered cascading time deficits into the science sections. Deciding to secure straightforward items and postpone ambiguous textual inferences was vital to preserving pacing.
The five problem-solving questions focused on wording, percentages, sequences, geometry and algebra. The mathematics was not advanced, but the section required more calculation than 2025 and careful translation of each verbal condition.
• Q1–Q4: Long reading and general-knowledge passages that rewarded inference from the supplied text.
• Q5–Q9: Five classic problem-solving items. Unlike many earlier papers, no traditional conclusion-or-assumption set dominated the opening.
A broad, balanced return to core high-school biology. The paper moved across human physiology, cell structures and membranes, biotechnology, metabolism, photosynthesis, respiration, cell division, inheritance and molecular genetics instead of concentrating heavily on one process.
Compared with 2025, the biology set was less concentrated on respiration and more evenly distributed. Preparation therefore needed broad syllabus coverage and reliable recall of standard definitions and processes.
Chemistry covered a wide range of fundamentals: atomic structure, reaction balancing, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox, bonding, organic names and functional groups, gas laws and energy changes. It was theory-heavy overall, with less extended calculation than 2024.
• Atomic structure and bonding: ions, valence electrons, solutions and intermolecular-force comparisons.
• Reactions and organic chemistry: balancing, redox and disproportionation alongside naming, functional groups, gas behaviour and exothermic change.
Physics supplied 7 questions: 5 definitions or concept checks and 2 short numericals on velocity, Galilean transformations, kinetic and mechanical energy, hydrostatic pressure, neutral-atom charge and coherent waves. Mathematics supplied 6 direct questions on inequalities, a logarithmic equation, circle and parabola geometry, and probability without replacement.
Physics increased from 5 to 6 to 6 to 7 questions from 2023 through 2026, while Mathematics fell from 8 to 7 to 7 to 6.
The 2026 maths set was the easiest in four years, but inequalities remained a recurring theme. Fast recognition of standard forms was more valuable than advanced tricks.
🏛️<Cutoff Predictions>All 23 Italian Public Medical Faculties: Cutoff Predictions
Built from the restored Bi-Annual Swing baseline and checked against the 18,368-candidate pool, historical outcomes (/minimum-score), and the published 2026 seat quotas.
The 2026 anonymous list is much larger than the approximately 10,000-candidate 2024 cohort, while the paper appears broadly similar in difficulty. Its upper tail is also dense: 1,675 candidates scored 70+, 682 scored 75+, and 177 scored 80+. This widens uncertainty, but it does not erase university-specific mean reversion, EU preference distribution or later scrolling.
The published cohort has a median of 51.2. The top 10% boundary is 69.3, top 5% is 73.4, top 2% is 77.5, and top 1% is 79.8. These observed boundaries now anchor the university ranges.
It does not disclose EU/Non-EU status, university choices, eligibility, withdrawals, or allocation order. “Outside Italy” is an exam location, not a Non-EU category. Non-EU ranges are therefore deliberately wider, especially where only a few seats are available.

EU candidates participate in the unified national merit ranking (Graduatoria Nazionale). The revised provisional national-floor band is 60.0–62.5, with Cagliari currently the most likely floor candidate. Final preferences, eligibility checks, withdrawals, and scrolling can move that band materially.
For planning only, a score several points above the middle of a predicted range carries less allocation risk than a score at its lower edge. This is not a guarantee: the final ranking and each applicant's preference order determine allocation.

🧭<Strategic Study Guidance for Next Cycle>
Methodological roadmaps tailored to each subject based on the structural characteristics of the 2026 paper.
🧬 Biology: Solidify Core High School Concepts
Rather than getting lost in arcane biochemical pathways, prioritize cellular respiration, genetics, and molecular dogma. Aim for 90%+ accuracy in Biology to establish a secure scoring baseline.
🧪 Chemistry: Master Redox & Balancing Discipline
Train extensively on undetermined coefficients and half-reaction electron methods. Crucially, always audit whether acid molecules act purely as spectator ions (providing counterions) to eliminate fatal calculation traps.
📐 Physics & Math: Build Speed with Standard Forms
Focus on classical thermodynamics (isothermal, isobaric), basic kinematics, parallel circuit resistances, and without-replacement probability trees. Rapid, error-free execution of basic forms delivers maximum ROI.
⏱️ Time Management: The 100-Minute Pacing Rule
Immediately bypass long reading comprehension inferences in the opening minutes. Clear Biology and standard Physics/Math first, then deploy remaining time strategically on complex Chemistry balancing and Logic puzzles.
